Description

Although there are differing opinions, the name derives from the oenological inventiveness of the Benedictine monk Pierre Pérignon. Dom Pérignon was, according to the English scholar Laurence Venn, the first champagne defined as 'prestige'. Even if the first vintage dates back to 1921, it was only marketed in 1936 after the Great Depression. Dom Pérignon is only produced during the best vintages, and the grapes used for production come from the same year's harvest, unlike other types of champagne.
