Description

It is easy to see the full potential of Chardonnay in this bottle. A versatile grape par excellence, capable of adapting to practically any climatic condition, Chardonnay can produce fresh, mineral wines or large, opulent whites with elegant notes of sweet fruit. Such is the case with Penfolds' Koonunga Hill, made from grapes harvested in two of South Australia's best known areas. Barossa and Eden Valley, where a magical mix of red soils, warm, humid climate and abundant spring rainfall give the grapes an abundance of aromatics. Penfolds' technicians then complete the work by carefully vinifying the grapes and subjecting the wine to a short period of oak aging before bottling. Straw yellow with greenish highlights, the nose reveals intense aromas, with clear hints of apple, pear, melon, lemongrass and almond. In the mouth it is fresh, creamy and well balanced. Richly fruity, it is a wine that guarantees a long, very long, persistence. Extremely versatile, it goes perfectly with white meats, but also with light first courses and salads.
